Meeting Start Time: 4:05

SCC Business:

  • Call the meeting to order
  • Approval of September Minutes
    • Approved 8:0
  • (2026-2027) Safe Walking Route Plan
    • Routes are not changing from last year
    • Arrows in the parking lot, drive under 10 mph. The right lane is for picking up, the left lane is for driving away.
    • When available, students will use sidewalks; there are 3.
    • Staff and safety patrol are out before and after school to help.
    • Safety concerns: doors, parking lot, crosswalks, and snow removal
    • Report concerns and approve concerns in October.
    • The catwalk gate to the field is open, can we get it closed maybe by custodial or by safety patrol?
    • Top concerns:
      • Possible merge signs so that all cars are exiting from the left lane, not the right lane
      • The corner of NE school sidewalk is pretty bumpy, kids are following when they are walking their wheels, can we get this replaced?
  • Digital Safety Presentation
    • Teaching kids how to be safe online and when they use technology
    • ContentKeeper filters usage for elementary/middle/high school students. Parents can request more filtering based on their desire.
    • Lanschool is a classroom monitoring system where teachers can monitor sites for their students.
    • tcp.canyonsdistrict.org is the place parents can get notifications for specific filters and usage information. This will be highlighted in parent communication.
    • As a district we didn’t purchase reading or math programs so kids are on technology a lot less. This is seen school-wide.
    • Teachers will teach Thrive Time which is life skills with a digital citizenship lesson to wrap up the unit and tie things together. And we will have a digital citizenship week Oct 19-23rd where kids will participate in activities that support digital citizenship.
    • Reaching out to staff and informing them about “Kiddle” which is a kid google search engine.
    • Informing parents about Canyons School District online resources.
  • School Safety Plan
    • Will go over at November SCC meeting.
    • Walking routes are in communication with parents
    • We are asking district to add merge signs to help with flow of car traffic during drop-off/pick-up
    • Asking city to fix sidewalks
    • The intersection of 11275 s and 1700 e, and 11400 s and 1700 e does not have a sidewalk and/or crosswalk on a stretch of the road that is included in the safe walking routes. Cars are not watching for kids and kids are walking on the shoulder. Asking the city to fix this.
  • Digital Safety Plan

  • Input from the community, if present/other topics open for discussion
