Sunrise SCC Election 2020 – 2021

We have now have 3 open positions and 5 highly qualified Sunrise parents interested.  Please take a moment to read through their biographies.  We will have an anonymous paper ballot vote with one vote per parent in our vestibule from Monday, August 24th through Friday, August 28th.

Sarah Carlson
I am the parent of 2 students in the Canyons District, a 4th grade SALTA student at Sunrise and 9th grade student at Alta. I have served on Sunrise SCC since the 2016 school year and as SCC Chair for the 2019-2020 school year. A professional in the tech sector, I am passionate about academic achievement, equity and access to technology for all students.  I appreciate the advisory role the SCC serves to school administration in deciding how land trust funds are spent as well as many other issues that arise during the school year.  As a parent representative on SCC, I commit to be a strong advocate for solutions that support equity and success for all grades and students.

Meghan Gardner
Having lived across the country, we are not sure how we got lucky enough to land at Sunrise Elementary. I have a 4th and 2nd grader who call themselves Eagles and will never let us move until they are at least out of elementary school. I have a BSN in nursing, but spend all of my time nursing my kids at home. I have been involved with the Sunrise PTA going on 4 years now with this being my second year as the Treasurer. I have learned about the ins and outs of the great things that Sunrise has going on and how to best allocate funds raised. I also love to bike, garden, and eat yummy foods!

I am interested in joining the SCC this year in order to add my experience and opinions to the others who have helped direct Sunrise in such a positive direction. My experience as Treasurer will help me to be a financially responsible contributor to the SCC. Times are turbulent right now, and I think my calm, logical manner will be useful as we work to assess student’s progress and how to best allocate our resources for the health, safety, and education of our Eagles going forward. I am very dependable and detail oriented which will help me to add researched-based opinions to the council. I plan on maximizing the resource allocation to benefit the students!

Hillary Hewitt
My name is Hillary Hewitt. I’m the parent of a 2nd grader at Sunrise and a 4 year old. I work as a project manager for a local company and love to spend time with my family.

I’m interested in serving on SCC because I enjoy being involved with the teachers and faculty as well as other parents to work towards meeting the educational goals of the school and better serve the community.

I had the opportunity to serve as the SCC chair at a previous school and would love the opportunity to serve the Sunrise students and families.

Kat Holt
Hi! My name is Kat Holt and I’ve been a parent at Sunrise for the last 6 years. My youngest two boys will be in 5th and 2nd grade this year and I will also have 9th and 10th graders at Alta High. Prior to being a stay at home mom, I taught 5th grade in Granite School District. In my time at Sunrise I’ve been very lucky to be involved with the PTA in many programs, including a year and a half as Treasurer and most currently as co-chair of the Watch D.O.G.S. program with my husband, Ben. Being involved in the school community is very important to me, which is what sparked my interest in being part of the School Community Council. I look forward to working with the council to continue the tradition of excellence I’ve seen here in the teachers, staff and programs that have benefited our students. When we moved to this area 6 years ago it was specifically with the goal of sending our kids to Sunrise and we have not been disappointed. I hope to bring my perspective as both an educator and parent to the council to accomplish the goal of giving all students at Sunrise an educational experience that is second to none.
