Sunrise Extended Learning Fridays

Dear Sunrise Families:

We are starting extended learning Fridays tomorrow.  This temporary calendar change will last through winter recess.

Important items to note:

  • Office Hours
    • K – 2nd 8:00 – 10:00
    • 3rd – 5th 9:30 – 11:30
  • During office hours, you can email, call, or Google Meet with Sunrise teachers.
  • Each teacher will send home a graphic organizer that outlines the learning objectives (what students learn and why), success criteria (assessment for how students know they are successful) and a checklist for the day’s assignments.
  • Each teacher will either send home a packet with the language arts and math review pages and/or add the practice pages to their CANVAS sites.
  • The assignments consist of English Language Arts, math, and completing any missing work.
  • As time goes on, it is likely that more assignments will be added such as science and writing.
  • Please have your Eagle return their graphic organizer on Monday.  Our teachers will have various incentives for our Eagles to get the practice work completed.

If you have questions about why Canyons School District has put Extended Learning Fridays in place throughout our schools, you can find more information here.  You also can contact margaret.swanicke@canyonsdistrict.org with questions and/or concerns.

Thank you for your support.

Box Tops Reminder

Turn in Box Tops by Monday, October 12, 2020!

Box Tops is now mostly digital through the Box Tops app, but we want any Box Tops you have clipped! So, make sure to turn those in to your child’s teacher or in the Main Office by Monday, October 12.

And of course, continue to clip any Box Tops from participating products and we will collect again in the Spring. But also, download the app and scan your receipts. It’s the future! Last year we earned nearly $1200 in Box Tops funds. Our goal this year is to beat that. Remember: family, friends and neighbors can help, too!

Thanks for your support!

Second Step – Oct. 5th – 9th

Lessons for this week for Kindergarten through Third Grade focus on Self-Talk.  Self-Talk, (which includes talking to yourself out loud in a quiet voice, or inside your head),  can be a great strategy for helping you to focus, maintain attention, stay on task, and handle distractions.  If we are having trouble staying focused, it can be helpful to identify classroom distractions, (whether learning in school or at home), and come up with self-talk to walk us through handling the distraction.

Fourth and Fifth Graders discussed mindfulness, or other social/emotional topics their teachers felt were important.  Please ask your student what they discussed in their class.

If you would like to learn more about Second Step, or engage in some of the home activities with your child, we would encourage you to create a family account,  by going to  www.secondstep.org and entering an activation code.  Activation codes are as follows:

Kindergarten: SSPK FAMI LY70

First Grade: SSP1 FAMI LY71

Second Grade: SSP2 FAMI LY72

Third Grade: SSP3 FAMI LY73

Fourth Grade: SSP4 FAMI LY74

Fifth Grade: SSP5 FAMI LY75

If you have any other questions about Second Step, or would like to talk to the School Counselor for any other reason, please contact Mary Lynne Richardson at marylynne.richardson@canyonsdistrict.org.
