- Discussion about Elementary-Level filtering and access options
- Decisions will be based on all elementary schools district-wide, but input will be asked on safeguarding content.
- Canyons has reviewed 500+ sites; students, on average, are on screens for 39 minutes per day.
- Immediate actions:
- Teachers are asked not to have free use time for kids who finish assignments early
- CSD will block any file sharing filtering categories and add back appropriate apps
- The district provides digital citizenship updates and safety
- Steps that CSD could take:
- Option 1: No change
- Option 2: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on “highly restrictive,” and it’ll be the CSD standard
- Option 3: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on “highly restrictive,” but parents can opt into having a less-restrictive setting.
- Perspectives:
- inequitable for different restrictions for students in a classroom
- Worried about wasting time on games instead of educational homework
- Wanting kids to still learn how to use technology
- Teachers won’t be teaching students how to access educational resources or access the technology in an educational setting
- Wants a specific statement so parents are educated on the option to have no change and to opt into higher restrictions upon requests.
- Teachers don’t want to decide because they don’t know what will be restricted
- Can we invite teachers to the meeting so that more teacher input is included in our decision?
- Library
- We are getting new books, but we won’t have an inclusive library of every single topic. It will not include everything, but it will be more
- Cell Tower Budget for PBIS Rewards – $3,500.00 & BOY training
- Move to next month
- Input from the Community, if present
- Spring Vote Discussion
- 1 community position
- 1 teacher position
- Voting will happen at the May meeting
