Principals Report:

  1. Review Positive Behavior Plan
    1. What learning opportunities do we have?
      1. Morning meeting, thrive time, digital citizen, small groups from SEL, restorative justice implementation, PBIS, Parent newsletters, 4th grade Botvin lessons.
    2. What will we implement?
      1. PBIS, Character skills, Red and white ribbon week, NOVA, Save UT

    1. 100% and will continue through the rest of the year
  3. March Budgets
    1. Cell Tower – $19,451.92
    2. Land Trust – $30,050.50
    3. TSSP – $48,586.36
  4. TSSP and Land Trust goals for the 2024-2025 school year
    1. Did not change from the previous year; they are still focused on growth throughout the year
      1. K-2 80% growth on Acadeince
      2. 3-5 80% proficient on RISE
      3. 3-5 SALTA 100% will achieve proficient/highly proficient
      4. School Climate 85%
    2. How we are using the money
      1. Utilize ELA computer programs, weekly PLC meetings, computers/iPads, increase hours for a teacher, hire and train 3 assistants to help with SBI and PBIS, hire and train 3 assistants to help with reading SBI, hire and train 2 assistants of rmath SBI substitutes for coaching/planning/and observations, BLT conference, and a focus on classroom structured instruction and additional supports for Multi lingual students
    3. How will we measure?
      1. Pathways of Progress and composite scores from Acadience
    4. How to support disabilities
      1. Progress monitoring, increased PA, phonics, SBI math skill groups, frontloading weekly instruction
    5. How to support MLs
      1. Structured classroom discussions and ILDP goals, sentence frames, and Wonders ELA curriculum support, increase manipulatives for math
  5. Discussion about Elementary-Level filtering and access options
    1. Decisions will be based on all elementary schools district-wide, but input will be asked on safeguarding content. 
    2. Canyons has reviewed 500+ sites; students, on average, are on screens for 39 minutes per day. 
    3. Immediate actions:
      1. Teachers are asked not to have free use time for kids who finish assignments early
      2. CSD will block any file sharing filtering categories and add back appropriate apps
      3. The district provides digital citizenship updates and safety 
    4. Steps that CSD could take:
      1. Option 1: No change
      2. Option 2: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on “highly restrictive,” and it’ll be the CSD standard
      3. Option 3: All elementary-level Chromebooks will be put on “highly restrictive,” but parents can opt into having a less-restrictive setting.
    5. Perspectives:
      1. inequitable for different restrictions for students in a classroom
      2. Worried about wasting time on games instead of educational homework
      3. Wanting kids to still learn how to use technology
      4. Teachers won’t be teaching students how to access educational resources or access the technology in an educational setting
      5. Wants a specific statement so parents are educated on the option to have no change and to opt into higher restrictions upon requests.
      6. Teachers don’t want to decide because they don’t know what will be restricted
        1. Can we invite teachers to the meeting so that more teacher input is included in our decision? 
    6. Library
      1. We are getting new books, but we won’t have an inclusive library of every single topic. It will not include everything, but it will be more
